Matthew McConaughey Will NOT Play Magnum

This is one of those festering casting rumors that’s just really gotten under my skin over the last year or two. Magnum P.I. played by…Matthew McConaughey. No. Just no. I have sat back and watched Rosie O’Donnell play Betty Rubble. I stayed silent. Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott as Bo and Luke. I let it go. No longer!

But lo and behold I don’t have to get angry at the prospect of the star of “Surfer Dude” playing Magnum. Brian Grazer just told me it’s not happening. So it’s not going to be McConaughey, I asked? “No,” he said. “I think the idea for ‘Magnum P.I.’ is to find a counterpoint, to not try and find the new Tom Selleck but to find someone that is just so different that you go, oh my God! That guy is Magnum?!?”

Grazer confirmed that he has a script for a “Magnum” film but reiterated that it’s going to come down to finding the right guy.”It’s so much about casting. You have to find the actor that adds through his own personality something to the title.”

Anyone come to mind? In the past everyone from Vince Vaughn to George Clooney have been rumored for the role. Or should it go to an unknown?

Super Dave's no 'Jackass'

here was one thing on my mind when I interviewed Super Dave earlier this month: when is he getting together with the guys from 'Jackass'?

Even though he revealed that talks are underway to resume his televised exploits from the '80s, he has no plans on going anywhere near Johnny Knoxville and company.

"Knoxville had the decency to give me the credit for coming up with the idea for his show," Bob Einstein told me. "The difference is, the guys in Jackass are jackasses. They really do go into walls face first and they have stuff shot into them."

"I’m a little more careful than that. I’m more about comedy than extreme death and pain. So, no, I will not be hooking up with the guys from Jackass."

In case you can't wait for Super Dave's return to television next year, a DVD of his favourite stunts hits stores Tuesday. Dubbed Super Dave's Super Stunt Spectacular, Vol. 1, the best-of collection includes his infamous CN Tower jump and King of the Road -- his attempt to stamp out road rage.

"I’m going on a 500-mile sing-along tour on top of a bus to end profanity on the highway," he smiled. "I couldn't do that now."

Mentally Challenged Kids? Nymphomaniacs? Johnny Knoxville's Back

Johnny Knoxville knows what it must sound like when he explains the plot of his next movie, "The Ringer."

"It's about a guy who gets hard up for dough, my uncle gets hard up with these bookies, and he convinces me to fake like I'm mentally challenged to get into the Special Olympics," he said. "On the surface it sounds like it's a mean-spirited movie, but it's not. It's a Farrelly brothers picture, so it's sweet."

And not just sweet in a "There's Something About Mary" or "Dumb & Dumber" sort of way, but like a funnier "Rain Man."

"We cast real mentally challenged actors in the roles, and it's one of the coolest things I've ever done because all the kids are brilliant," Knoxville said. "They're so cool because it's like something's taken away in one area, but in other areas they're just brilliant. They're like Rain Men. A lot of them call me every other day, and they're great."

The Farrelly brothers produced the movie, which Barry W. Blaustein, who wrote "Boomerang" and "The Nutty Professor," directed from a script by veteran TV scribe Ricky Blitt ("The Family Guy"). Katherine Heigl ("Roswell") plays Knoxville's love interest.

As politically incorrect as "The Ringer" might sound, Knoxville has already topped it with another upcoming movie, "A Dirty Shame," which finds him working with a kindred spirit, director John Waters ("Hairspray," "Pink Flamingos," "Polyester"), otherwise known as "The Sultan of Sleaze," "The Pope of Trash" and "The Baron of Bad Taste."

"It's one of his funniest and naughtiest pictures in years," Knoxville said. "I'm a huge Waters fan." The film stars Tracey Ullman as a Baltimore convenience-store clerk who suffers a concussion that causes uncontrollable sexual urges. Chris Isaak and Selma Blair co-star. Neither "The Ringer" nor "A Dirty Shame" have opening dates, but both are expected before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Knoxville is preparing to join Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsch and Nikki Reed in "Lords of Dogtown," a skateboarding biopic based on the documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys." Catherine Hardwicke, who earned rave reviews with "Thirteen," is directing (see ).

Knoxville's latest movie, "Walking Tall," starring the Rock as the county sheriff of a corrupt small town, opens Friday. "He's a really cool guy and he's got a good sense of humor," Knoxville said of his co-star. "And there's no pretense about him. He just seems like a guy you grew up with, so we got along off-screen too."
